CDS 1056-2 Hans Huber (1852-1921): Piano Concerto No. 1; Piano Concerto No. 3. Dan Franklin Smith, piano; Stuttgarter Philharmoniker conducted by Michail Jurowski.
The most interesting feature with Huber in younger years is the fact that his theme work originally seem rather undistinguished. Still when working on the material, he always find something convincing with them! This goes for the 1st. And Litolff's Concerto Symphonique no 5 is never far away... The 3rd is a completely different matter. Here he is absolutely personal, also in the choice of themes! Just the beginning is arresting in it´s refinement. A stunning continuation of the symphonic complete series!
"... the result is further testimony in favor of a composer whose neglect is surely undeserved. Collectors of Huber's music so far will need no further urging from me, but if you've been following such worthy projects as Hyperion's Romantic Piano Concerto series, then you'll definitely want to hear this as well." - ClassicsToday.com
